Dress Up : White Jeans! Yes Please!!!

It is the beginning of another week in April and there is no better time than now to write a post for Dress Up for this week! As it slowly gets warmer out there step out in style and sport the new trends of the season.

Something notably trending in the fashion world for summer 2014 is t-a-d-a-a-a white jeans. Add some distress to em and convert these into the IT LIST of Fashion. Now as you wonder how to pair white distressed jeans or skinny jeans without a 'fashion faux', let me give you an idea.

This week, here is a neat casual style for white jeans. First go grab a pair of white jeans (pick your kind) available everywhere.

Next, for that 'laid back' kinda look, go for a chic embellished collar retro blouse in Indigo, styled with skinny white jeans to give it a sophisticated lux feel perfect for any time of the day. Strap on blue belly shoes and a chic blue satchel. Just finish it off with cute white stone studs and cat eye sunglasses. Walk away wearing freedom on your sleeve.

HOPE for A Better World

The great poet Emily Dickinson is the writer that made abstract tangible and defined new meaning without confining it. She created a distinctive elliptical language of expression. Her poetry always liberated my senses and left me spellbound.

Her work encompasses profound insights into nature and life. The words and phrases exhibit extraordinary vividness of descriptive imaginative power, yet often set in a seemingly unblemished tone.

In true dedication to one my favorite poets, here is her take on the marvel of having some HOPE in a world torn to pieces of despair and bitterness.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Refreshing Watermelon Cooler

Feeling the heat already?ahh, it is time to put all that fresh fruit produce to good use. Lemonades, coolers, spritzers or punch, get your hands on some summer fruit and get to experimenting in the kitchen.  Go ahead and start with a fresh watermelon drink for the season. Here's the recipe that worked for me...

4 cups sliced seedless watermelon, rind removed
1 lemon juiced
1 tsp lemon zest
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 cups cold water
Watermelon wedges and mint, for garnish

In a food processor, blend watermelon, lemon juice, sugar and lemon zest until very smooth.

Add 1 1/2 cups cold water, cover and refrigerate until very cold.

Serve over ice and garnish with watermelon wedges and mint or on a very hot day, just gulp.

Dress Up : The Navy Blue & Nude Affair

Monday's can be plain ol boring and if you are really speculating on how to animate another week of chores, work and monotony with some much warranted fun and excitement, look no further. Follow my Dress up posts to grab some ideas for the week and who knows how much envy you could cause!

This week, the focus is on my favorite color combo -Navy blue and nude - those truly are the rapid fire colors. They outdo any sober Monday blues for sure. I always loved Kate Middleton's style and drawing inspiration from her classic royal look, here is my take on the Navy blue and nude rapport.

Grab a decent Navy blue lace dress from Nordstrom or Macy’s and cinch your look with a leather bow belt.  Beautify with chic metal double cuffs and dab on some Deborah Lippman nail lacquer in navy for those who want to showcase the new shade of the season. What's missing? The classic patent high heel pump that is a must have in the shoe closet and oh yeah! don’t forget to take your Gucci sunglasses as you head out the door to enjoy a crisp warm spring day.

Start the week in style as you play dress up for real and actually have some fun doing so.

Eat Healthy : Chicken Recipes

Chicken is considered a lean protein. Easy to prepare in a healthy way by grilling, roasting, poaching, baking or stir-frying it is a healthy option for a meal. But the worry for us consumers is the quality of chicken we purchase. For any health conscious individual, it is necessary to be wary of the diseases incurred from infected poultry, pay attention to the quality of chicken you purchase and follow the basic safety rules when handling chicken.

1) Defrost Chicken properly. The night before, place your frozen chicken on a tray in the refrigerator overnight, or, for a smaller portion microwave with defrost option and cook immediately.

2) Use Separate Cutting Boards. Do not cut chicken and veggies on same cutting boards, this is a classic case of cross contamination. Instead, purchase a synthetic cutting board for poultry. Scrub it clean with soap and hot water to disinfect it after use.

3) Cook Chicken Properly. A well cooked chicken should register 165 degrees Fahrenheit for safe eating. Make sure you cook the chicken well.

After prepping and planning out what to make, here are some fresh chicken recipes from to experiment on.  Happy Cooking!

Clicks : 'Kundan' Jewellery

I love fine jewellery especially if it spells delicate and sexy at the same time. In India, Kundan jewellery is the most famous form of adornment that women love to wear to weddings or grand occasions. The jewellery compliments the traditional Indian outfits from sarees to salwaar kameez and hence is the best form of artistic detail to wear on any occasion.

The splendor and brilliance in this form of jewellery design comes to the forefront due to its intricacies and detailing in placing the kundan or gems in a framework of detail. A simple piece of design is created by carefully placing multicolored gemstones in gold or faux metal bases.

Here is a look at some of my clicks depicting this age old form of jewellery in India.

Below is a well crafted artisan motif in green emeralds, white opal and red ruby gemstones placed on a bed of gold plated intricate framework and design, a classic piece to bring out the diva in you.
An embellished pair of earrings in emerald and ruby to contrast the diamond setting against the brass framework, finished with a gem drop.
A striking gold framework embellishes the ruby stones of this delicate yet artistic floral motif pendant in rubies and white gems.
Finally, below is a beautiful pair of 'kundan' earrings with cut drops and ruby stones against a gold framework within intricate array of geometric cut and design.

Exercise For A Better Life

Here is a nice chart to help you exercise effectively. I like the depiction as it inspires me to follow the regime whenever I look at it. Just hang up on your wall and exercise for a better life.
