The World Of Tiffany's & Co.

Tiffany and Co. is an American multinational luxury jeweler headquartered in New York City, USA. The company was founded in 1837 where masterpieces of fine craft jewelry were styled and sold to the rich and elite of the time. Tiffany & Co. in today’s world is a company that is marked to celebrate love with its quintessential engagement rings. Studded with semi-precious stones and diamonds embellished in stunning pieces of jewelry, it feels just right for the lucky to-be bride.

“You gotta have style…. It helps you get up in the morning.
It’s a way of life.”
—Diana Vreeland, Fashion Editor and Curator

I've always had an enduring passion towards Tiffany’s as it is popularly called. Growing up watching Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 classic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany's I just knew I would be doing the same thing she did if I were on Fifth Avenue in NYC. Peevishly peering into the shop windows fixated on the stunning display of Tiffany's jewels made for a queen. Breathing heavily on the bullet proof glass window as I intricately study the intricate designs and art work of those glistening pieces of fine craft jewelry. It was no surprise that when I was on Fifth Avenue in NYC recently, I had a dejavu kind of experience and I instantly knew it was real.
Most women are obsessed with something, I think for me it the sense of feeling royal just dreaming about Tiffany’s. From the Tiffany Blue Box – the epitome of Tiffany’s great heritage of elegance, exclusivity and flawless craftsmanship to the Blue Book - Tiffany’s first catalog published in 1854 that covers exquisite collections of couture jewelry on earth. Take a look at the company’s timeline to learn more about their growth.

Thus goes my passion for Tiffany’s. If you are keen to learn more about this company, visit their website Tiffany.com to learn more about their work and their passion for crafting beautiful jewelry. All images are copyright of Tiffany’s.com.

Get Rid Of Ants

One thing I hate about pests is that they always seem to find a way to inhibit your home and every effort you make to get rid of them never seems to erase them forever. One such pest in my home is the ant. Although it is easier to kill the large ants, I have a bigger problem with the small tiny microscopic ones. After  battling them in one sector, they reappear in another. Tired and frustrated, I turned to the internet for remedies. Boy was I lucky!!

Here is a good post from shemakesahome.com on how to get rid of these pesky pests. The cinnamon theory is working and I recommend it to all. Read this blog for more information and keep your home ant free...

International Women's Day - Do What Is Right For Equal Right.

After one year of blogging, I categorically have blogged about a lot of varied topics and it would be unwarranted of me or my blog if I failed to write a post on International Women's Day. This Saturday March 8th, we have an opportunity to applaud overwhelming accomplishments of women all over the world. The truth is women are certainly achieving success and brandishing influence across diverse array of fields and industries. As we retrospect our life as an urban woman of this world today, the question remains how far have we come from the days of struggle? And what are the atrocities we face as women today?

While most of us have an icon that inspires us to dream, women around the world are making waves as iconic examples of courage, bravery and justice to equal right. But not all women are lucky. The torment that some women face in most underdeveloped countries around the world is treacherous. From dowry harassments, female infanticide to honor killings and rape, the stories are demeaning and disturbing to hear about. The atrocities are colossal, the coverage is less and so we believe we live in a safe and secure environment of equal opportunity and right to freedom, but I disagree.

It is no secret that women who accomplish the most are the ones ready to take chances. That kind of bravery ignites a revolutionary change for women. One of my favorite personifications of female heroism can be seen through the actions depicted by education activist Malala Yousafzai, who said,

"We call upon our sisters around the world to be brave - to embrace the strength within themselves and realize their full potential.”

As humans, we are always guilty of undermining our fellow comrades. At work, at sport or across cultures even, we find it very hard to open ourselves to diversity and competition. This inequality exists that make us insecure of who we are rather than appreciating the accomplishments of others. It is time to change that attitude.  It is time to make a self-realization that nothing in this world is achievable unless you dream and persevere. No matter what the struggle is or was, the fruit of the outcome lies in the ability to stand up and voice for change.

Our lives are intertwined. Women’s day is not exclusively for women. Feminism is the simple, deep-seated notion that women are also human beings and our lives improve when we embrace the full equality of both men and women. If women are faring better at work, congratulate and encourage them instead of frowning about it. If women are playing better sport, they should be given equal opportunities to participate in events. Don’t just feel sorry for women in underdeveloped countries suffering discrimination. Change that prejudice, do something in some small way to help as you are the fortunate one.

We hear of the stories of the women who motivate us to realize our dreams. We must consider ourselves fortunate to witness so many heroic acts of bravery, courage and leadership from those inspiring women across the globe. But the job is just beginning. As we revel in our sister’s heroic acts, we can also contribute to change in this world. I urge us to be attentive to the world in crisis. From women in Sudan to those suffering in India, open your eyes to any form of harassment you witness and help make a change.

If you are still wondering what this 106th year of celebrating the International Women really means in your life, I encourage you to look for inspiration from the many successful women that every day change the world to make it a better place. Perhaps, you can find your source of stimulus from one of them and do what you have to and fight for equal right.

DIY Project For March

With a small piece canvas and some good quality acrylic paint, you can make a masterpiece for your walls.First I traced my initial onto the canvas and gave it a stroke of cobalt blue. Inspired by French art, I just had to pick a fleur-de-lis this time. After googling images of the 'fleur' I printed this one design, cut it out, then traced the shape onto my initial on the canvas. I chose to place them appropriately and not clutter the design too much.

Take a smooth brush and fill in with gentle strokes of any acrylic color you wish. Super easy, super fast and super cute! Hang and Ta-Da!

Best Dressed At The Red Carpet

Another successful Academy Awards just concluded and congratulations to all winners. I was curious to know what eye-catching designer dresses were out there on the red carpet this year and I must admit that I am no fashion guru or designer critic. Just a young girl curious to know what Hollywood actresses prefer to flaunt on the red carpet. Nothing over the top this year, I guess everyone chose to keep it simple and elegant. Thankfully, the rains did not shower on the parade of Hollywood's biggest names and their ensembles.

So while the whole world is scrutinizing who was blazing hot on the red carpet, I did a little post on my favorites. Starting from my best pick, here are my top five favorite gowns that some of my favorite actresses chose to wear to the Academy Awards. In some bizarre way, I think the designers were completely justified by these gorgeous women who stunningly carried out their designs.

Let me start with Sandra Bullock. She arrived in a navy blue Alexander McQueen gown, dark nails with the perfect balance of the side hair and the pleated detail on differing ends. For me, she was the best dressed this year and the 'Gravity' quotient has set her career back on a roll along with her sense of style. She is one scintillating beauty that has done herself and McQueen proud. Her look was topped off with the right makeup and the amazing ear cuff that immediately caught my attention. She simply nailed it.
Lupita Nyong'o was the one everybody had their eyes on, mostly because she so deserved the victory. Her searing portrayal of Patsey in the best movie of the year ‘12 Years A Slave’ won her a truly deserving Academy Award. But what was more gorgeous was her sky blue Prada gown that made it all soft and dreamy for the debutant winner. Drawing attention to her unknown-to-Oscars trajectory and a dainty touch of charisma, it was truly her acceptance speech that was the highlight of her night.
There seemed to be a lot of actresses choosing to elect for traditional black and pastels this year, daring one, the very talented Jennifer Lawrence. The young starlet from the Best Supporting Actress category looked radiant and elegant in a standout strapless Dior outfit that made her look red hot. Her sense of style is impeccable, especially in the straight lined column gown with that sparkle around her neck. I know she is the new genre of actors that are attracting profound scripts for women. As for her style that is a different quotient and quite amicably carries off anything she sets her eyes on even after tripping ineptly on the red carpet. The gal has a good sense of humor and we love her for her sporting spirit.
My next favorite of the night was the gorgeous Amy Adams. First of all, the Gucci gown she wore was made to fit Amy and just Amy. The slim-cut, the midnight blue with that sapphire tinged look and those Tiffany drop earrings just enhanced her ensemble. I always worshipped her style and she is one woman you would not want to miss from the red carpet gallery.
This second time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett chose to wear a rather conspicuous skin tone shade. Always known to take risks with fashion, I mark her as the fashion ingĂ©nue with a different sense of Hollywood sexy in her. Her Giorgio Armani gown with the elaborate capiz shells looked rather heavy against the nude gown, but I think she looked stunning overall and the choice of color radiated the confidence in her to win the Academy Award for her portrayal as a brittle Manhattan socialite in Blue Jasmine.

Thus ends my selection of the best dressed at the Oscars for this year.  While some of the best talent in Hollywood got to exhibit great outfits, here’s hoping to see much more the next time.

Turmeric = The Spice Of Good Life

If you haven't heard about this spice, then it is time you looked it up. Turmeric is an herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family, native to India. The active ingredient curcumin is therapeutic and is at the center of attraction for impending treatment of diseases like cancer, diabetes, arthritis and other chronic illnesses. Also used in savory dishes, it is a significant ingredient in Indian cuisine.
Recognizing the potential of this root, a number of studies have been performed on its efficacy in treating various conditions. Today, turmeric has found application all over the world in various purposes such as medicinal, cosmetic, dyeing and coloring purpose.

Turmeric is an elixir for the skin. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation properties help reduce the signs of ageing, wrinkles and fine lines, can also reduce burn and stretch marks, can help fight acne and takes care of cracked heels.

The spice has improvising benefits to skin. Women in India have experimentally proven that usage of turmeric powder in a face pack redeems the skin and provides a fair glow. Turmeric is used in creams, body scrubs and skin products to boost the glow factor. During the Indian wedding ceremonies, turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom to give them fresh glowing skin on their wedding day. The ceremony popularly called ‘Haldi’ is a grand occasion of song and dance in India.

With proven results, I am blogging about this spice to share my most rejuvenating face pack that will help better your skin. Get your hands on some good quality turmeric powder the next time you are at the super market. With a creative blend of ingredients you can prepare the right kind of face pack to give you that clean beautiful skin.

Here are the ingredients you would need :
¼ tsp of turmeric powder
1 tsp coconut oil
¼ tsp honey
1 tbsp yogurt

Mix everything together. Apply mask onto face and neck and relax for 20 minutes till the face pack tightens and dries up.

After 20 minutes, wash with cold water rubbing in circular motion and wipe clean.

While the honey exfoliates the skin and opens up the skin pores, the yogurt helps to de-tan and cleanse your skin. Applying this face pack at least once a week will generate clear and clean glowing skin.

Turmeric has been considered to be 'skin food' for thousands of years in India and is the best nourishment your skin can receive after a long days work.

Incorporate more of this spice in your daily routines. Whether you use it as an ingredient for your curries or in your face packs, this is the spice of good life.
