Mint Chocolate Truffles

This holiday I wanted to make a fresh dessert and bring something new and lively to the table after a scrumptious Christmas dinner. It's been a while since I spent Christmas with my family and it was a joyous occasion to return home in time for all the festivities and also catch up with my loved ones over the holidays. In return, I wanted to make Christmas dessert special so I made some Mint Chocolate Truffles - easiest truffles you can ever make and the sweetest dessert for any occasion.
Recipe:

To make about 30 golf size truffles you will need

  • 2 cups of dark chocolate morsels or about 500g dark chocolate(70% cocoa solids)
  • 4 tbsp of diced butter
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 4 tsp clear honey
  • small bunch of mint


For the coating you can try one or more of the following :
  • cocoa powder
  • crushed chocolate flakes
  • crushed digestive biscuits
  • finely chopped pistachios or almonds


Method:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat add the cream. 
Lightly bash the mint springs to release the fragrance and add to pan. Heat till the cream is infused with the mint for about 5 minutes

Break the chocolate and in a heatproof bowl. Add the butter and honey. 

Strain the hot cream through a sieve and onto the chocolate. Stir to melt chocolate mixture.

Pour the chocolate mixture into a shallow bowl and refrigerate for an hour or until firm

To form the truffles, gather your coatings and take the truffle mix and form golf size balls. You need to work quickly as the chocolate can start getting sticky and messy as it melts. Toss the truffles in your preferred coating and arrange on a plate.

Consume as soon as possible.

Ways to Soothe a Sore Throat

After landing in India a couple of weeks ago, I experienced an irritating sensation in my throat that was causing me to clear it time and again. This ultimately led to a sore throat and was just so infuriating to clear out or get rid of. After trying several medications I finally found relief in just following a simple regime to get rid of that frustrating sore throat. Of course, after recovery I decided I must share it on my health and living section of my blog for all to benefit.

A sore throat is generally the first sign of a bad cold, the immediate concern of which has to be to cure it before it evolves into something grim and strenuous. Next time you feel your throat getting itchy and hoarse, just follow the below remedies to prevent a nasty cold before it gets worse after all prevention is better than cure.

Several studies have found that gargling with warm water and a good amount of salt dissolved in the water helps to loosen the mucus and reduce intense swelling of the throat. In fact, I recommend salt water gargling at least three times a day as the amount of relief it can provide will only make you feel all well again instantly because it helps to flush out the dispersed bacteria.

Another effective way is to stay hydrated.  Drink warm water every now and then so that your mucous membranes are moist and better able to combat irritants and allergens to help your body fight cold symptoms.

Soups are age old remedies for sore throats and can help to soothe any itchy throat. Try warm to hot soups like chicken broth or vegetable noodle soup that will effectively help soothe your throat.

A warm cup of herbal tea is another very effective remedy. Herbal teas contain antioxidants that strengthen immunity and keep infections at bay. Adding a teaspoon of honey helps to heal faster.

Finally the most important thing to do is get sufficient rest. There is nothing much you can do once the virus is in you but get ample amount of rest. Rest ensures your body is capable of fighting the virus sooner.

So don’t dismay if your throat starts to feel scratchy and sore. Just follow the above tried and tested for ages remedies and instantly heal yourself the next time you have that sore feeling in your throat.

Slim is In


The New Year has dawned on us and while most are busy making obsolescent and impractical new year resolutions, here is one that you can plan and stick to this time. All of us at some point in our lives wish to look slim and trim. But contrary to myth, slimming down is not starving your body of nutrition. Slimming is a process of controlling your fat intake and burning fat by diet and exercise. Obesity is a global issue and if you consider yourself obese, then do something about it this year. The epidemic of obesity is catching up with us due to our estranged lifestyles and corrupt habits. It is time to get you on the control crusade of sugary offerings and prevention is always the cure.


Shedding undesirable pounds are always proportional to diet and exercise. The direct relationship they share distinct one from obesity. If your loved ones have not already tried it, counseling is the simplest way to be aware of the situation you are getting into. Eat less and exercise more is the best advice to take. The right balance is struck when you eat the right foods and exercise.

Needless to say, the consumption of red meat is a no-no. For die hard meat lovers, stick to lean fat and limit your intake on salt and starch. Ideally, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, egg whites, skinless poultry and non-fat diary products aid in the mission of losing weight. Drink more water. Avoid sugary drinks. Indulge in good physical activity. A brisk walk can be quiet effective. Always try to incorporate exercise on a daily basis.

A great way to slim down is to get rid of the “white” food and replace with foods rich in fiber and whole grains. Contrary to most beliefs, skipping meals is never the solution to slimming. The only way to lose weight safely and to keep it off is to modify your eating habits, and then ensure that those new, healthier eating habits become a way of life. There’s no point in embracing strict measure that prevent you from living life to the fullest. After all, food is there to be enjoyed. You need a way of eating where you can eat out with friends, socialize without having to forego the meal.

This new year commit to taking care of your body as much as it takes care of your living. Treat it with respect and follow a diet rich in fiber. At the end of the year, watch yourself transform into a healthier and fitter being.
