Winter Skin Care


Winter is upon us and I fathom most of us are very apprehensive about our appearances. From chapped lips, to dry and flaky skin, itchy scalps to dull complexions , Jack Frost is nipping away and you wish you could do something about it! Well, I have some nice tips to share with you so relax and read on to find out how to moisturize, cleanse and prevent dry and itchy skin.

Winter affects skin in severity mainly due to the lack of moisture in the air. Staying indoors is not ideal especially with the slating heat inside that result in drying up the natural oils of your skin causing it to appear dull and dehydrated. Stepping out in the cold is even worse resulting in chapped lips and windburn subsequently causing rough cracked skin that feels tight and uncomfortable. There is no escaping the winter harshness on your skin, instead take measures to revitalize and prevent your skin from disrupting your holiday spirit this winter.

The most important thing you would need to do this winter is to stick to a regime to moisture and stay hydrated. Eat a balanced diet. Drinking a lot of water is always the best method apart from consuming foods rich in omega-3 like salmon and walnuts. Dry and itchy skin may be prevented by consuming herbal tea to secure that healthy glow.

If you believe that taking a hot shower can make you feel warm and comforting, it is a terrible idea and can cause skin irritation as it strips the natural moisture out of your skin resulting in winter blues that disappoint. So turn the temperature down from hot to warm to keep your skin feeling supple and hydrated. Exfoliate once a week to disembark dead skin and then use a moisturizer to keep your skin from falling out.

Chapped lips are a turn off. Carry a lip balm rich to relieve dryness and soothe chapped, cracked lips. 

It is quite challenging to keep hands moist. Protect your hands by wearing gloves when you go outside. Also use a good hand cream to moisturize and prevent itchiness and cracking.

Pamper your feet and take extra care of them as they tend to crack and appear parched. Just gently buff away calluses with a hydrating scrub or pumice stone, and apply a thick, buttery moisturizer and cover your feet with socks overnight.

Finally, do get into a daily routine to keep your skin at its healthiest and enjoy a good winter whether indoors or out and simply glow on!!
